When staff at a local Arkansas shelter found a tiny kitten wobbling and tilting her head, they didn’t know her heartbreaking backstory or just how close she’d come to losing her life.
The kitten, later named Halo, had been brought in by someone claiming to have “found” her at a local park.
But the truth behind her story was far more disturbing.
Halo’s head tilt, unsteady walk, and frightened demeanor immediately made it clear that something wasn’t right.
The shelter workers suspected she might have neurological issues, but with limited medical resources, they knew her time was running out.
Unless a rescue group stepped in, Halo would be euthanized within hours.
That’s when Sarah Richardson, rescue coordinator for Community Cats of Central Arkansas, got a call that changed everything.
“I was told there was a kitten at risk of euthanasia,” Sarah recalled. “I didn’t even know her full story, but I told them, ‘Don’t euthanize her. I’ll be there in an hour.’”

“The vet said she could perform both the examination and surgery at the same time,” Sarah explained.
“It’s the best option to stop her condition from getting worse and maybe even reverse some of the damage.”
Halo’s surgery is scheduled in the coming weeks, and while the road ahead is uncertain, her rescuers are full of hope.
Until then, she’s staying in a loving foster home, surrounded by warmth, safety, and endless cuddles.
Despite everything she’s been through, Halo is affectionate and purrs whenever she’s held.
“She struggles with basic things right now,” Sarah said. “She can’t eat without help, and she topples over trying to use her litter box.
But she never gives up. She’s such a fighter.”
The operation will cost thousands of dollars, but Sarah insists Halo is worth every penny. “She deserves a real chance at life,” she said.
“After everything she’s survived, it’s the least we can do.”
