Some cats stand out because of their striking eyes or perfect symmetry.
Eggbert isn’t one of those cats, and that is exactly what makes him unforgettable.
When his photo appeared on the Fairfield Area Humane Society’s adoption list in Lancaster, Ohio, it barely had time to sit there.
Within just one day, he was spoken for.
His soon-to-be family didn’t need to meet dozens of cats or think it over for weeks.
One look was enough.

Eggbert is a handsome tabby, but what makes him extraordinary is his unique appearance.
He was born with only one eye and one nostril.
To him, that is simply the way the world has always looked and felt.
To everyone who meets him, it is a reminder that beauty doesn’t need to follow a rulebook.
The shelter describes him as “an absolute angel of a kitty,” the kind of cat whose personality shines as brightly as his distinctive face.
Missing an eye and nostril hasn’t slowed him down.
It only means that when he snoozes, you might hear him snoring like a tiny chainsaw.

And Eggbert doesn’t just get by; he thrives.
He loves giving headbutts to anyone within reach, soaking up chin scratches, and following his people from room to room like a little shadow.
Or, as the shelter puts it, “like a baby duck.”
Before arriving at the shelter, Eggbert had experienced occasional seizures.
While in their care, he remained seizure-free, but the team made sure he’d be monitored in the future and receive any treatment he might need for epilepsy.
His health needs didn’t make potential adopters shy away, especially not Holly Starr.

Holly spotted Eggbert’s photo on Facebook and immediately knew she wanted him in her life.
She already had a soft spot for special needs animals, and she believed her home would be the perfect place for him.
Her other cat, Lark, was also a rescue from the same shelter, so she was confident Eggbert would feel right at home.
The morning after seeing his post, Holly picked up the phone and called the shelter.
She arranged to meet him, and it didn’t take long to realize her instincts were right.
Eggbert was exactly who she had been looking for.
The shelter announced the adoption with a happy update:
“Superstar Eggbert is off to his forever home! His new family has another FAHS alumni kitty at home, so we know Eggy is in the best hands.
He couldn’t have found a better home! He is going to be loved and spoiled rotten.”

For Eggbert, the new home came with more than just love from his humans.
He also gained a built-in best friend in Lark.
The two have settled into life together, sharing sunny spots, toys, and quiet moments that only cats seem to understand.
Holly couldn’t be happier about her decision.
“I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the animals with special needs,” she said.
“I want to make sure they have a loving home where they get all the attention they can handle.”
Eggbert’s story is the kind that makes people smile, but it also carries a quiet message, the kind that shelters hope will stick.
Special needs cats often wait the longest for homes, even though their personalities and capacity for love are just as great as any other animal’s.
Sometimes, as in Eggbert’s case, they’re even greater.

His new family sees him for who he is: a playful, affectionate, one-eyed wonder who greets each day with enthusiasm.
To them, he is perfect. And to anyone who has met him, it’s clear that imperfection can be the most beautiful thing of all.
So, the next time you think about adding a cat to your family, remember Eggbert.
The cats with differences; the ones missing an eye, with a crooked smile, or in need of a little extra care, have so much to give.
And, just like Eggbert, they might be waiting to turn your home into their forever one.
