Jason Schwartz thought it was going to be just another ordinary day on the job.
As a plumbing tech at Handyside Plumbing in Pennsylvania, he was outside a customer’s home, grabbing a few tools from his van, when something unusual happened.
A car drove past. Out of its window, a trash bag was flung onto the side of the road.
At first glance, Jason figured it was nothing more than careless littering. But then he saw it. The bag shifted.

It wasn’t just lying there, still and forgotten. It moved.
Jason froze for a moment, trying to make sense of what he’d just seen.
Then instinct kicked in. He ran straight toward the bag, ripped it open, and what he found inside nearly stopped his heart.
Curled up in the darkness of the bag was a tiny black kitten.
She was so small, it looked like she had only just opened her eyes. No more than three weeks old.
She was trembling, terrified, and completely alone.
Jason didn’t hesitate. He scooped her up, holding the fragile little body close. Leaving her behind wasn’t an option.
She was too young to survive without help, and now, whether he’d planned it or not, Jason had just become her rescuer.
From that moment on, the kitten became his little passenger.
She rode alongside him in his work van, bundled up safely while Jason went from call to call.

In between fixing pipes and handling service visits, he fed her with a syringe every hour, making sure she had the strength to keep going.
Not exactly the kind of task a plumber expects during a workday, but Jason didn’t mind one bit.
In fact, he seemed determined to make sure she got a second chance.
It didn’t take long before this tiny kitten’s story started spreading around Handyside Plumbing. Soon, she wasn’t just Jason’s van buddy.
She was the new office sweetheart.
When she wasn’t napping in the van, she lounged in the company warehouse, stretching her little paws and winning over absolutely everyone she met.
Staff would check on her constantly, sneaking in cuddles whenever they could.
Somehow, this one small ball of fur had managed to bring a whole new kind of warmth to the workplace.

The company’s Director of Operations, Carley Handyside, summed it up perfectly:
At Handyside, we talk a lot about going above and beyond for our customers, but our team brings that same compassion to everything they do.
We’re proud of our tech’s quick action and the kindness our whole team has shown.
And the kindness didn’t stop there.
Enter Olivia Thomas, the company’s marketing administrator and a self-proclaimed cat lover.
Already a cat mom herself, she knew exactly how much attention a kitten this young would need.
So, she stepped in to take over the round-the-clock care.
Olivia brought the kitten home and instantly began bottle-feeding her, keeping her cozy and loved as if she had always been part of the family.
She admitted she hadn’t officially picked a name yet, but the kitten’s big ears and silky black fur had earned her the nickname “Bat.”

Another name on the table was “Lucky,” which felt equally fitting considering the circumstances.
Day by day, the tiny kitten grew stronger under Olivia’s care.
And now that she was settling into her new life, Olivia started introducing her to her resident cat, Indie.
To her delight, the two seemed to be warming up to each other, with hopes they’d soon become the sweetest little duo.
Even more exciting, Olivia confirmed she plans to adopt the kitten officially, giving her the forever home she deserves.
And the story might not end there.
The kitten could one day meet Hunter, the company’s part-time office Husky.
Just the thought of a black kitten and a fluffy Husky sharing nap spots is enough to melt anyone’s heart.

From being tossed away like garbage to being cradled in loving arms, this kitten’s journey has already taken an incredible turn.
What started as a shocking discovery on the side of the road has become a story of compassion, second chances, and a community rallying around one tiny life.
Thanks to a plumber who refused to ignore a moving trash bag, and a company full of people with huge hearts.
This little one is now safe, loved, and ready for a future filled with purrs and play.
